This morning we communicated with parents of our high school students regarding a threat to Maricopa High School posted to an anonymous social media account.
Throughout the day, we have communicated with the Maricopa Police Department regarding their ongoing investigation. MPD is working collaboratively with other Valley police agencies and the FBI.
The police have learned that the threat has impacted hundreds of high schools across the nation. Because the threat is vague and not specific to Maricopa High School, school operations will return to normal on Wednesday, September 26th, 2018. School will be open. Students may carry backpacks and purses.
We will update you with any new information.
Please take this opportunity to talk with your children about the importance of reporting any threats to school personnel or the police department. Also, any person found responsible for communicating threats will be prosecuted for disrupting an educational institution, a felony offense.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
