Child Find
We continue to provide our community with opportunities to screen young children with monthly Child Find Screenings. If you feel that your child may have a developmental delay and qualify as a student with a disability, MUSD offers free screenings based on a child's cognitive, motor, language, social/emotional, and adaptive skills. We will hold Early Childhood Special Education screenings for students who are at least three years old, with suspected developmental delays, one time per month. The following are date(s) on a first come, first serve basis from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the district office boardroom.

Resource/Inclusion Elementary Programs
The Resource and Inclusion Programs are K-5 special education programs in the Maricopa Unified School District. Through these services we provide students special education support for academic and behavioral needs. We may provide these services in the general or special education setting. We will support students while in the general education setting with accommodations and modifications as indicated by the IEP, and the special education teacher will consult with the general education teacher. The IEP team determines the service delivery.
Resource/Inclusion Secondary Programs
The Resource Programs is a grade 6-12 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These services provide students special education support for academic needs. We provide these services in a special education setting in the form of Resource Classes including Reading Skills, English Skills, Math Skills, and Study Skills. Our programs also support students are while they are in the general education setting with accommodations and modifications as indicated by the IEP. The special education teacher consults with the general education teacher and the IEP team determines the service delivery.
The Inclusion Program is a grade 6-12 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These services provide students special education support for academic and behavioral needs. We provide services in the general education setting by the general education teacher, special education teacher, or paraprofessional. We support students while in the general education setting with accommodations and modifications as indicated by the IEP. The special education teacher consults with the general education teacher. The IEP team determines the service delivery.
Extended Resource
The Extended Resource Program is a K-5 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These classes provide academically intensive special education services for students who require complete replacement of reading, writing, and mathematics instruction by a special education teacher. We assign students in this program to a general education teacher at the appropriate grade level, and they participate in the general curriculum for all academic and non-academic activities except reading, writing, and mathematics instruction. Students in the Extended Resource program receive related services and additional instruction or time with the Extended Resource teacher as determined by the IEP team.
Functional Skills
The Functional Skills Program is a K-5 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These classes provide students specially designed instruction by a special education teacher in functional academics, social skills, activities of daily living, and communication skills in a small group learning environment as determined by the IEP team.
Life Skills
The Life Skills Program is a grade 6-12 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. Special Education services are provided through specific life skills class periods, such as Life Skills Math, Life Skills Reading, Social Skills, Independent Living Skills, Workplace Skills, and Workplace Practicum. These classes provide students specially designed instruction by a special education teacher in functional academics, social skills, activities of daily living, communication skills, and vocational skills in a small group learning environment as determined by the IEP team.
Independence Skills
The Independence Skills Program is a K-12 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These classes were designed to offer students specially designed instruction by a special education teacher in activities of daily living and pre-academics. Students in this program receive integrated related services and medical care in a therapeutic small group environment as determined by the IEP team.
Structured Teaching
The Structured Teaching Program is a K-5 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. These classes provide a systematic learning environment for students with special needs that targets independence through physical and visual structure. Students receive specially designed instruction by a special education teacher in elementary academic areas in a small group learning environment as determined by the IEP team.
ED-P
The ED-P Program is a K-12 special education program in the Maricopa Unified School District. The ED-P Program is a special education program approved by the AZ Department of Education that helps students replace inappropriate behaviors in an instructional or social environment with appropriate behaviors. The program is based on a Level System, in which students work through a series of levels with increasing opportunities for inclusion. The goal is full inclusion with minimal behavior support. Students are required by the state to have a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team report agreement to the eligibility of an Emotional Disability.
Developmental Preschool
The MUSD Developmental Preschool is an integrated program where children with differing abilities play and learn together in the same classroom. This program serves both special needs and typically developing preschoolers. The preschool staff uses a team approach to working with the children. Each classroom is taught by a certified teacher with trained instructional assistants, as well as other support staff including: a certified speech and language pathologist, occupational, and physical therapists. The IEP team determines what related services will be provided, and if the delivery method will be in a self-contained special education classroom or in a classroom integrating student with IEPs and typical peers. Tuition is required for typical peers, who are screened before enrollment.
